Okay, today I just added the last species of plant to my tank, the ones that are supposed to be the N-mops. They're small and not well-rooted now, but the plan is for them to grow into the tank.

My tank should have no unwittingly-added snails in it right now. The plants I purchased at the store were labeled snail-free (and I didn't see any when I was cleaning and adding them to the tank), and the ones I added today came from snail-free tanks.

Also, I just got my tank up to 1ppm ammonia today to start the cycling process.

With all of that in mind... When should I start looking to add snails I want to the tank?

I'd say when you're near the end of the cycle at the earliest.

MTS, ramhorn snails, and eventually a betta. Keeping the stocking simple.

Well if you want ramhorns i am infested with them atm lol. Actually laddy hobs just sold me some assassins to help. Both those are "pest snails" meaning you can introduce them to a fully cycled tank and they will be fine, better with the hard water. I would add your betta then try to add the snails. If you get adult ones just add a couple. Or you could add them all at once.

Any ways the reason i suggest adding the betta first, or them all together, is because the snails alone wont be enough to hold a decent cycle. That means when you go to add the betta latter it will cause an ammonia spike and that might not be so good.

I have a lead on some pretty blue ramhorns, but thank you. :) And they're why I'm not trying to fully recreate the betta's natural water conditions. lol

I'm not planning to stop adding the ammonia to cycle the tank until there's a fish in there, regardless of the presence of snails. I'm not worried about them when the tank is cycled but I'm still adding ammonia; they're tough enough for that. This is just if I should add them before it's fully cycled.
