    hi guys.
I have a 55g. I suppose you would say heavily planted on one end and medium planted on the other with a big piece of driftwood. My stock is 15 cherry barbs 15 rummynose tetra and 10 kuhli loaches and a male betta. My filtration is 2x aqua on aquis 1200 canister filters. Now my question is I would like to add another school or a pair of dwarf cichlids is that possible or any other options?

I would go with the dwarf cichlids over another school, just my personal preference.
If it's called tourist season why can't I shoot them?
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

Is the male betta showing any signs of stress or nipped fins? Male bettas can be stressed out by active fish, although some of them would be fine with it.
My suggestion? Research farowella catfish, also known as twig catfish. They're awesome, and most of them is tail, giving them less bio-load than you'd think. Plus, they'll clean algae off the glass for you, and they're suckermouth fish, so they can't eat anything that's alive and protesting.
I hate hearing people say "it's only a $3/$5/$1 fish/shrimp, so it's ok if it dies, I can just get another." It's still an animal! All animals should be treated like they're worth $10,000.

Fishkeeper's got a good point - you have the space and filtration for more fish, but it's a challenge to keep the betta happy, you need fairly placid fish without the nipping gene, or rehouse the betta and develop from there

there are no problems with nipped fins but if I move the betta to the 16g in my signature would it be ok? What other different fish are there?

I would move the betta to the 16 and go with the pair of dwarf cichlids. Watch the betta but since he has done ok in the 55 I would guess he'd be fine in the 16.
    20 gallon tall: empty
29 gallon: moderately planted with 9 bloodfin tetra, 1 german blue ram, 11 glow light tetra and 1 BNP
    10 gallon QT: empty

Bettas and barbs or bettas and cichlids, never ever a good mix. If you want more action in the tank get more schooling fish. If you want some entertainment get the dwarfs.

As a side note, if you do get a pair of cichlids, decide what you will do with the fry beforehand.
