    Default Starting to keep Discus

Well I took the plunge. I was at the local mom and pop fish store just looking at their discus and I noticed a fella watching me. After awhile he came over and introduced himself. Well come to find out they were his discus fish that he sold the owner. Also he is a breeder of them and has kept them for 20 year's and bred them for the last 10. He said he's a private breeder and doesn't really advertise at all. So I told him my situation and my tank and everything else and ended up going with him and someone fron the LFS to his house and checked out his operation. Wow he has 4, 55 gallon tank's and one 175 gallon display tank. I told him about my tank and my stock and he sold me one juvenile super red. I told him the parameters of my water and he said it would be fine. He said he's kept discus in water temp's from 75 to 88 degrees. So he said it will be good to try the single lone one then I could add 2 more if everything was ok. Man I wish I could've taken pic's and wrote down everything he said. It was a great experience. I now have my water temp at 81 to 82 degree's so all the fish I have will still be ok. I will be doing 2 water changes a week regardless now. Here's a few pic's of the new discus

Buying locally bred discus is probably a good idea, chances are they're used to your local water. Good luck with this project!
