  1. Default Stocking advice for 180 liters tank (i think its 55 gallon)

    0 Not allowed!
Hey, i have probably bought me a 55 gallon tank going to check if my Fluval 406 works with it since its drilled in the bottom for a external filter and only a 205 comes with and it's abit small for the tank.

I need some tips on stocking advice i want a breeding tank but yet no breeding tank if you understand. 1-2 pair of a cichlid size larger with maybe some corys and a pair of BN, I want the tank to really look full with these fish in and would prefer not to get angels or discus.

I don't want the tank to look very empty like it normaly do with like 2 smaller cichlids.

I want to give the cichlids chances to get fry and raise them without having to give away all the other fish.

I hope i was able to make you understand what i would like. It might be impossible but i won't know until i ask.

    Thanks in advance

You could do a pair of angels, some corys, a pair on BN plecos and some "dither" fish.

As long as the dithers aren't too small, they wouldn't be bothered.

That way the angels and the BN plecos could breed if you set them up correctly

Angels are to small and 2 angels in a 55 would be quite empty, i don't want to have any tetra or barb since that makes it harder for the cichlids to breed thats why i only want 2-4 cichlids and corys/BN in the tank and it's fully stocked. but it seems only angels can fit in that size tank all other cichlids needs 10 times the size of a tank.

you do realize angels get like 4-6" right...

Unless you want like african cichlids, in which case you could do 1 male and 3-4 females. But I don't think the corys and bn pleco would really be happy in that type of tank

Well being that you dont want angels, what about sevrums? You could do the following: Fire mouths, Acara, Honduran Red Points, Keyholes, Geophagus species that dont get more than 8in, Kribensis (if they are to small you could consider Giant Kribs which get 8in).

Most of these species would be ok with cory catfish but I would make sure to get the false emerald cory catfish. THey get nice big and bulky and make sure the other fish you get are small. You can add in a pleco but if you are breeding the eggs would be a quick snack...

WHat do you WANT to breed? Also... you can do larger tetra like congo's for dither schoolers.

I want to breed cichlids but also not breed i want to give them the highest possibility to breed. but not going to breed them like normal breeders do thats why i only want to have a pair or maybe 2. I don't want any other fish but some bottom cleaners since they don't really bother the cichlids when they are spawning like other cichlids and tetras.

I know how large angels gets, i had 3 2 weeks ago but had to give them away since my 100 gallon cracked and the 2 males was close to 7". These angels i had from the time when they were smaller then 1" to what they were 2 weeks ago, so thats why i don't want angels. Reason i don't want discus is for the price tag they have.
And maybe some corydoras but right now it's pretty hard to get any apart from the normal metal ones.

Ill look up those fish even though i have no idea what anything is but the firemouth and acara (been thinking of the blue acara myself but have not decided yet so all advice is welcomed even smaller fish like keyhole are accepted.
I won't go african since i only like 1 african fish "Frontosa" and my tank is abit to small.

I think i know what severums are for fish if they are the one that reach about 13-14"?
