MTS are a myth!

Okay, not really. I had some last time I had my tank set up. lol However, I can't find them at all around here! If there's a "pest" snail infestation around here, it's always pond snails! :( That's the one "pest" I don't like. lol

In my area petsmart only has pond snails so I guess it depends on where you go. I had to get my colony going from some from a smaller pet store.

Sure wish you lived around here. I'd let you come over and dig through the gravel in one of my tanks that has lots of MTS (from plants from my LFS). I hate them worse than pond snails. My assassins have been much quicker destroying pond snails I've had in the past - I never see those any more. But I've now moved a few assassins into this other tank with MTS and it's slow going. I still pick out dozens each water change. Ugh!
What is it that people like about MTS?

I like that they keep the tank clean.

jaycee, I only saw a bad infestation of pond snails at one Petco, and that was it. Everywhere else were only the snails actually on sale (Apple/mystery snails at the Pet* stores, plus assassins and nerites at the LFS).
Lady10Godiva, that's what I did last time. The LFS I got my bettas from then had some ramhorns and MTS in their tanks. The guy gave me a funny look when I was asking for them, but he fished some out for me. Now that store is gone. :( (They had the best-treated bettas I could find. Bettas were in containers twice the size of everywhere else.)
SueD, they clean the tank and they help aerate the substrate so that you don't get anaerobic patches that spit up toxic gas. When I had them before, I had to really look to find them most of the time.

I raise up mts to feed to my clown loaches. They love snails and they eat them so fast I raise them in a different tank and then plop some in by them every week.
They also dont goop up their tank with all those eggs like pond snails.

I had a MTS problem... Three assassains ate them down to very few in about three months. I actually want some now, that way I could put them in my tank to clean the sand.
I hate hearing people say "it's only a $3/$5/$1 fish/shrimp, so it's ok if it dies, I can just get another." It's still an animal! All animals should be treated like they're worth $10,000.

Lady10Godiva, nope they're rather clean about their reproduction!
genocidex, I'll be introducing ramhorns to my tank deliberately. I think they're cute!
Fishkeeper, isn't that the way of things? When you don't want them, they're everywhere. When you do, they're nowhere to be found.
