Thoughts on dissolving rate of root tabs
Just thinking today while checking out my tank.
Do you think the substrate plays a difference in how fast root tabs dissolve in our planted tanks?
I'd be inclined to think that pea sized gravel would allow the tabs to dissolve faster since more water gets can get down in the substrate....
and that sand would allow for a slower dissolving rate since it is so compacted.
Thoughts? anyone have personal experience w/ their substrate differences? I only have one tank, so it's not something I can test out. lol

Seems logical, but in all reality it also depends on the current in the tank. If theres nill to no current on the ground then the tabs should disolve slower. I think also the plant substrates would make them disolve faster. They would pull the free nutrients out of the water leaving more room for more to disolve.... I would think at least lol.....KING OF THE GOLD BARBS RAWR!!!!
I wonder if i plant one of my tiger barbs would the demon seed grow to a full tree?
gotta love them bunnies!

Some substrates do hold nutrients better than others. http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=153412 has a pretty good thread that talks about it and compares different substrates. Also I think a large factor is the type and number of plants you have that are pulling nutrients from the substrate. Amazon swords are heavy root feeders, while other plants may get more benefit from nutrients in the water and not from their roots.

Valid points you two!
Thanks for that.
something happened to my vals while I was on vaca, so i've been brainstorming random things that may have been the cause to see if it was on my end or not.

I know my crypts, hygro and amazons destroy seachum florite root tabs in about 3-4 weeks. I just re-organized my tank and pulled out a hygro, I had just put the root tab in a few weeks ago and the roots were already crushing it
