  1. Default Firemouth cichlid stocking help?

I currently have a 48x16x22", 72 gallon (about 270 L) bowfront aquarium, with a cascade 1000 canister filter and a marineland penguin 200 biowheel filter. The tank is half sand, half gravel (I may eventually convert it to all sand), is heavily planted, has rocks, and has a few large pieces of driftwood with many hiding places including caves.
I currently have the following in the tank:
    9x Colombian tetra
    1x Albino bristlenose pleco
    1x Raphael catfish (currently 1.5")
    8x Corydoras

I will eventually get 7 or so more cories, a pearl gourami, and possibly a blue phantom pleco.
My question is, would a firemouth cichlid get along with all of these fish, given I purchased it at a small size (at my lfs, they are about 2")? Do firemouths like to tear up plants like other cichlids tend to do? If a firemouth is not a good choice, are there any other centerpiece cichlids which might be an option?

Yeah it should be ok. FM may or may not uproot plants. I doubt it would actually go after the plants. I would leave the gourami out if you get one. A jewel cichlid may work too. Or a festivum.

Thanks for responding! I read a couple places (on the internet) that pearl gouramis and firemouths actually get along quite well. I don't completely believe it, but I think I my try it, and simply move the gourami to my 30 gallon if they fight. Is that reasonable?

Otherwise, are there any other larger (4-7") mid-level fish that would get along with the firemouth?
