Well after spending the day with my friend, Lexi, I came how to check on my fish tanks. Low and behold my black molly was missing from my 20 gallon. Being as he wasn't in the area around the tank I checked the bottom of my eheim filter. Of course, he got himself sucked up and was swimming around the bottom area of the filter -_- It was bad enough that today I had to do a water change on the tanks but it was even worse now that I had to tear apart the filter, and possibly ruin my cycle in it, to get him out. Well after a couple hours of work both tanks are cycled, the black molly is out and is doing well(I also found a Nerite Snail in the filter which also is doing well).

After all that I went to check on my 10 gallon apisto tank, after the water change, and swimming all around the tank were tiny, white, thread-like worms. -_- After a bit of research I've positively IDed them as nematodes. I've read they're harmless and increase in numbers due to overfeeding. I'm going to cut back on feeding, do more gravel cleanings, and try to be rid of them. I read copper kills them but I don't want to have to remove my nerite snail. Has anyone had experience killing them, and if so how?

If I was you, I would keep the nematodes around. Good fry food.

Im not positive but I think I had read somewhere that copper is dangerous for many fish as well. Happy to hear that you retrieved your animals safe and sound as well.
When in d0ubt read it until it makes sense, then read it again!

Glad to hear you didn't lose the fish!

You should know that "tearing apart" a filter doesn't lead to a "ruined" cycle. The ways you can lose a cycle is by: 1) completely replacing all the filter media at one time, 2) removing the media and letting it dry out or 3) removing the source of ammonia from the media (ammonia feeds the bacteria) - the bacteria live in the biological media - pulling apart pieces of the filter won't kill them.

There are a lot of extra critters living in your tank that you did not put there on purpose. Don't freak out just because some happen to be big enough to see.

Thanks everyone for the comments.. It seems to me that my apistos indeed noticed the nematodes as well. Most of last night, and this morning they were swimming around eating them XD They barely ate anything when I fed them in the afternoon they were so full! And yeah, I just find it odd. My molly is by no means small and the intake tube is about 4 ft long. He'd have to have gone in exactly perfect to have gotten sucked in without being hurt. He's a bit bruised and he lost some scales but he ate earlier this afternoon and he's doing good. Let's hope that doesn't happen again. Taking apart that filter is a pain.

I also dosed my tank with iron for the first time today so hopefully my crypts start coloring up.
