Petco pre-packaged plants
0
Okay, I had to stop in for some equipment today, and a not-my-normal Petco was closest. I decided to look at what plants they had, just to get an idea of what I could put in the tank.
Oh man, it's a good thing I wasn't looking to take anything home from the tanks! There were tiny pond snails EVERYWHERE, and I wasn't happy with their freshwater tanks, and the saltwater tanks were completely shut down.
I think that when I'm ready to plant my tank, I'm going to buy as many plants pre-packaged as possible, to cut down on unwanted snails (I'll add ones that I want, thanks).
Anyways, here's basically the selection and I'll link to pictures so as not to spam slower-loading computers. Many were in those tubes, though now they're also offering some in plastic baggies.
So, while not all of those are true aquatic plants... most are. And them using an alternate name for Java Fern completely threw me off of what it was! And they had Anacharis in bunches in the tank. And the bunches hold a lot more than I would need.
And on a related note... Would dental floss be okay to tie down the Java Fern and Anubias when I get to that part?

Snails arent as big of a problem as many people seem to think. A dip in a snail killing compound will kill off all snails. This can be a weak bleach solution, aluminum sulfate and magnessum pomergrate or something like that...... Tbh i cant actually remember the exact names of the last 2. Im sure some on will chime in.
Next i personally dont like dealing with petco for plants. They seem to have horrid plants imo. The ones around here arent so bad but i explored out of the area and found crud! I wouldnt attempt much of the not fully aquatic plants...
If you use dental floss make sure its not flavored at all. Tbh im a fan of cheap fishing line, and ive had some luck with cotton twine and mosses....
Edit. Those "betta plants" are great plants hardy as sin, but being they are crypts they do melt with changes in water chem.
If you can theres a forum that has a great classified section for plants and equipment. I bought nearly all my plants from them

The LFSes around here have about the same quality plants, and often as much r more. Petco is easy to get to, within my budget, and I wouldn't have to wait on shipping. I'm already being driven crazy waiting on substrate to be delivered.
I already have a plan 3/4 of the way set in place, detailed in another thread. All are aquatic. And I do have prior experience with Crypts. They're wonderful plants and I love them.
Honestly, I have no idea where to get fishing line around here. Okay, I know one store, but it's a store I'm boycotting. I have a thing of flavorless floss sitting right next to me
