Hello people, I am joining this forum in hopes to find out what I am doing right or wrong from people in my area. I am a new owner of a 75 Ga. tank.

    3 weeks ago...started the water process, got everything put in. Gravel...check, decorations...check, Eheim 2217...check, 300watt heater..check. Water...check.

    1 week passed...
Added 5 Red Mickey Mouse Platys...1 weeks time elapsed...all things going good.

    Week 2
Added 4 more fish...1 Ballon Molly, 2 Sunburst Platys, 1 Blue Mickey Mouse Platy.

    Week 3
Disaster strikes on day 2 of new fish...1 Sunburst Molly has ICH (Named her Broketail) ...deceased.

Since, I have raised water temp to 87°F & added 15 tablespoons of aquarium salt...Now on day 3 of recovery process...

    Thats my intro story.

    Welcome to the forum

Did you cycle your tank before adding your fish ?
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Ich is present in a lot of tanks and fish stocks but often only gets a real chance when the fish are really stressed. In your case the lack of cycling may have caused it. Cycling, especially fishless (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fishless_cycling) is a method to establish bacteria in your filter to break down the ammonia secreted by the fish into the relatively harmless nitrate.

As soon as the ich is gone you need to do a lot of water changes for the next few weeks. I'd also advice you to get a liquid test kit capable of testing ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Many people use the api master kit for that.

    Good luck and welcome!

Agree with talldutchie - your fish were stressed because you added too many fish too quickly to an uncycled tank.

Best to read about treating for ich so you use the proper amount of salt - bring up the temp properly, etc.

At this point the test kit is really important as is not adding anymore fish. Plus, read about cycling with fish. Are any of your other fish showing signs of it?

Cliff. I did cycle the tank, I had the fish store give me the OK to add fish.

I added 2 phases of fish on the recommendation that I needed more females. I added 5 fish first, then 4, after the addition of the 4 fish is when the Ich started. Is it possible one of the fish was already sick? Or a possibility that my tank caused the outbreak?

Imma24, The first fish that I noticed it on was removed from the tank, 1 other fish shows signs. Clamped fins, chills in the bottom corner or the top corner, today she seems to be eating. Temps elevated to 87 on day on 3 of that. added 15 tablespoons of salt brine over a 2 hour period. The white spots on broketail #1 seem to be going away. How long do I keep the temp elevated? The entire time of treatment?
