Question about adding water to my tank
I prefer leaving the hood off the tank. Main reason for this is because the hood light is no where near powerful enough to support the plant life in my tank. I take it off and I use 2x 60 watt flourescent bulbs. This is fine. The main problem though is the water evaporation. Having a penguin filter, over a day or so the filter gets quite loud for sitting right next to me bed so I usually add maybe .5 gallons to top off the tank and lower the noise. So the question is, should I add prime every time I add this little bit of water in my 20 gallon tank.

You should never add tap water to your tank without dechlorinating it first. Even small amounts are too risky IMO.
I think a drop of two of prime should be enough for 1/2 gallons of water. If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

I 100% agree with the above answer. Unless your on well water or are using R/O water, add Prime. Keep your BB alive and healthy.Warning; Bulldog Pleco guarding my Sons tank now..
