Thread: New School

After watching my Neon school dwindle a little bit I've come to the decision not to replinish the group as it dies off. Don't get me wrong, I like them very much. I think I'm just ready to try something else. Of course I'd also hate to spend money replinishing if my Angels decide to go nuts on them when they reach sexual maturity.
So here I am trying to figure out what to replace them with. I'll need something that is easily compatible with the stock list in my signature. I want to stay away from the colors red and orange. This is because I already have a good size school of Serpaes, and I don't want the tank to be one note.
When I figure out what I want I'll grab me a medium sized school of them (about 8), and then add one for every Neon that croaks. That way I'll keep from over crowding.
Suggestions please!130g: 4 Angelfish, 2 Roseline Sharks, 12 Conga Tetras, 5 Kuhli Loaches, 1 Otocinslus, 1 Corydora

Well i was going to say rummynose, very active and exciting but they do have a bit of red on them if you want to stay away from that. If you want to keep with the blue theme (which is always great), maybe columbian tetras, kerri tetras, or cardinals. For a change in color and shape maybe kitty tetras or diamond tetras. I have heard great things about the diamond tetras in a school.
Ask steeler1; he would definetely have some suggestions!Tanks: 30 gal community and 10 gal shrimp/community

I was kinda leaning towards the Columbians, but after looking out the Diamonds you suggested -- if I could find some they would be something to consider.
Keep them coming guys!
OOPS! Not Columbian, I was thinking Congos.130g: 4 Angelfish, 2 Roseline Sharks, 12 Conga Tetras, 5 Kuhli Loaches, 1 Otocinslus, 1 Corydora

Congos never crossed my mind. In my personal opinion they look better than the columbians and you have certianly got the space for them. They do come from a different continent than south america though, so if you wanted to kind of stick to that general theme then that might be something to think about. Up to you!Tanks: 30 gal community and 10 gal shrimp/community

The area has no hold over my tank as of now. I mean just as long as they will still get on well. :)
Yes, I like the Congos better as well.130g: 4 Angelfish, 2 Roseline Sharks, 12 Conga Tetras, 5 Kuhli Loaches, 1 Otocinslus, 1 Corydora

I was thinking congos would be a nice addition and I like the idea of diamond tetra too. I was also thinking you might like lemon tetra or black phantom tetra. When I go fishing I just throw sharp rocks in the water and wait for the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

+ 1 to Congo's because they have similer water requirements and they will take up the upper part of your tank.
I like HB's suggestion of Lemon tetra's; not as colorful as some but one of the best contrast tetra, IMO would look great with your serpae.
And Green toads brought up Diamond tetra's, they would look great with your Angels and serpaes.
All very good suggestions.Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.

That's funny... Congos were the first tetras I thought of after reading your post and everyone has already mentioned them.
