    Default Re-Doing Tank Concerns

Hi, I have a 20g tank and I want to change decode and substrate. I know most BB live in filter but I also know that some live within the substrate as well as in the water itself I saw online that there's "live" substrate to assist in new cycling tanks and I was wondering if I should get that to ease the shock to the tank with essentially a 100% water change and new substrate.

No don't. Its a waste of money and the only ones that are worth much are the salt water versions. Just keep your filters cycle and redo the tank.

As long as your filter is properly sized for your set-up and has a lot of biological filter media (and is fully cycled), you should be fine

I have replaced all of my substrate and water when moving a tank before and nothing bad happened. Parameters remained stable at 0ppm of ammonia & nitrite, and 5ppm of nitrates. pH also remained stable at 7,4

Just as a FYI, almost all of the "live" sand products that you find are typically for marine set-ups (and typically don't work well for marine aquariums IME).
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.
