For those of you who like Barbs but are put of by the Tiger barbs nasty reputation, here is another small barb to consider. The Checker barb; (Puntius oligolepis) stays small at 2" and next to the Cherry, is probably the most peaceful barb. Their one drawback is that dealer's place them in bare, unplanted tanks and they come across as being a dull colored fish. Take them home to your well planted tank with subdued lighting and you have a very colorful little fish.
They eat just about anything but grow slowly, so be paitent with them and you will be rewarded.
This is not that great of a video but at least you can see the males starting to develope their coloring.
