    Don't panic just yet, give it a few more days at least before considering a water change.
    If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

    24 hours later nitrItes are still well off the scale. 10ppm+. This is the 5th day of the spike.

    I think it might be happening! This morning's nitrItes are significantly lower. Less than 1ppm! Ammonia was zero so I added some more. Hopefully good news tomorrow!

    Okay, nitrItes jumped back up for a couple days, this morning they are back down to 1ppm but now pH has dropped from a steady 7.8 to the low 6s. pH crash?

    kH has dropped from 3 to 0 also. gH is steady at 8. Nitrates are 50+.
