I like your choice of tank Railgun.
My local Home Depute had lexan sheets of different thicknesses which I bought for sump dividers. Cut to size with a scrapper not a power tool, and gel super glued into place. I then added a tank safe silicone to seal the compartment. Has held for almost 6 months so far in my saltwater set-up.
Keep up the posts and pictures. It's a friendly site.

Google aquarium sump design or diy. There are all kinds of designs with how to's in writing and video. Mine took me around 2 weeks to get the design and materials and around 2 hours to make. Let dry for 24 hours and test compartments.

Strider has really hit the nail on the head here. It sure can feel like it is far to complicated at times. But I think that is only due to the fact you have never set up a sump before and you are starting to see all the options available to you.

Try viewing some youtube videos about setting up sumps. That should help

But at the end of the day you need to have a set-up that you are comfortable with. If that is a set-up with a sump, then so be it. If that is a set-up with canister filters, then so be it. Both can give you a great set-up each with different pros and cons
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

It seems like sumps are getting high in demand for FW tanks these days. =] This makes at least a 3rd person who wants to DIY just in this forum (at this time). Good luck! I'm really looking forward to seeing your progression and setup.
