Adding to the above, I have always boiled my driftwood for a few hours (remember to add fresh water), and then let it soak in a container for a few to 7 days.
I've never had any bad effects having driftwood in a tank.

Thanks for the advice! Not sure I would enjoy even a slight discoloration so the better chance of reducing that possibility the better.

The tint is so minor you hardly notice it and as madagascariensis mentioned; the species you want to keep will enjoy it.

As steeler1 and madagascariensis said, the tint the water takes on is actually really cool and south american fish do well in it.
The tint will fade as time goes on so if you don't like it right off the bat it will disappear gradually over time.
If on the other hand your really not into it, soak the driftwood and change out the water until the water in the driftwood container isn't tinted anymore.

Think I'd rather get a Clown Pleco, IF I get any at this point...

This is my idea... definitely want Gold Barbs and Giant Danios, Bloodfin Tetras can be substituted. Quantities would be 5 or 6 each.

Will try to post a photo after I complete final setup today.

How does it all seem to you guys?

    Thanks!

Also, would it be wisest to stock a particular species first? How many fish should first be introduced?

If your tanks cycled you could add all those fish mentioned except the Clown pleco. It should be indroduced last after a few weeks of the tank running.

I think 10 goldbarbs and 15-20 bloodfins would look nice. I've never been a big fan of Giant danios, just me.

a fish to consider in place of the giant danio is a school of 6 scissortail rasboras. adult size is about the same as the giant danio. scissortails are a very peaceful community fish.

Good stuff all. I personally liked the Giant Danios because they are so active and I dig their coloring, have owned them before and they were a treat.

I may have to cycle with fish, I had used a bacteria booster chemical and did not do a fishless cycle. Is it too late to begin one? Water readings are all spot on. IF I did a cycle with fish, how what would the stocking look like? A few gold barbs at first?

So I've decided not to go with Giant Danios so I can keep more, smaller fish. Figure I would replace them with black neon tetras. Anyone have experience with these?
