  1. Default Severums with small fish?

    0 Not allowed!
    Hi!

I get a lot of conflicting info on the web about Severums, so I decided to ask here: Does anyone own or have experience with grown Severums with small fish like cardinals? On the one side I read they will eat them, on the other side that they can be kept together. I love them but I do not want them to feast on my shoals...

The only way and even that's not 100%, to keep cardinals and Severums together is to put them in a large tank and Severums have to be very small so cardinals physically don't fit in its mouth.

Thank you! My tank is 500l, but I would not try that, since they do eventually grow up. I'll search a bit further for larger tankmates. I am also considering Bolivian Rams with either Cupid Cichlids or Mesonauta insignis, but I am still researching their behavior, availability, if such a combo would work, etc...

GBRs and sevs work together so bolivians would also work. I've even seen serpae tetras in tanks with Sevs but it was a large tank. You'd have plenty of room.
Congo tetras are great with sevs. I have school with mine in a 90 gal tank.

The smallest fish I've kept with severums were Buenos Aires Tetra (which are lightning fast) and cory catfish. Both were fine. I'm not sure I'd keep them with cardinals...although as above, if you get them as babies it might work.

Thank you all! I just found out that I killed the bacteria in my new tank, so I'll sort that out and read up on fish combinations in the interim. Will post again when I am feeling a bit more positive...

Not sure what you're asking but this thread is more than a year old.
