well in a few weeks im heading to the beach for a week (dont worry pictures will follow) any ways im using this time to do some great R&R each evening fishing from the beach. ordering my license on tuseday, buying a new rod come friday, and stocking up on all my gear as it all grew legs... if you know what i mean. this is the first year im actually trying to catch something so i was wondering if i could get tips on line.

i know mono filament is the good old standard, but braided seems like it might be better. from what im thinking the braided is better for strength and it is more sensitive. BUT since my major target is blue fish and striper, i think the mono would be better cause its less noticeable in the water. what should i spool? it would surprise me to hook a 25/30 pounder
I wonder if i plant one of my tiger barbs would the demon seed grow to a full tree?
    gotta love them bunnies!

I still prefer good old Mono. Used braided quite a bit...Still do for some species To me it tangles very easily and it has no stretch...Which sometimes I like to have a little give in the line. It's all a matter of what you like. My brother in law uses it almost exclusively and does great. I use mono and do great as well. Key is re-tie knots regularly...That's where most failures occur. Good luck!

What reel are you using, what is the gear ratio and spools yard capacity? What is your rod length, weight restriction and action rating?

Braid is thinner but 0 stretch and completely visable to all spooky fish. Its good for a main line but would be benificial to add in a leader line of 5 ft or more. The leader should be a good quality flourocarbin. This has less stretch than mono but more than braid and is 100% invisible in water. It also sinks where mono floats.

You want to use at least a 2oz weight hooked as an a carolina rig, then a circle hook with your live or dead bait (best is shrimp).
