What type of plants did you try ?
What type of lighting do you have ?If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

'Any conditions'... No. Plants have environmental conditions that must be met for their survival, It's just that simple.
Having said that, It's pretty easy to meet the requirements of the commonly kept easy/low light plants.
Gas mileage isn't everything OIIIIIIIO
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.
A warm beer is better than a cold beer. Because nothing is better than a cold beer, and a warm beer is better than nothing.

Depending on what you have bought... there is a whole section of aquatic plants that are known to die back right after transplant and then recover. If you bought one of these kinds and then thought you killed it and pulled it out... you jumped too soon!
So please do share what kinds you have tried and the lighting. :)

Can you put the following up to give us an idea.....
types and amount of fish
Water change shedule
Nitrate level in tank
What plants you have tried
It maybe that your water is being kept too clean and the plants simply didn't have anything to eat, it maybe that your lighting isn't sufficient or simply you didn't try the right plants for your tank.
I've grown some of most species of plants (before moving onto marine) and each type had very different requirements.
I had a tank that I planted about 30 species in the same tank, it was high in CO2, I added fertalisers daily, the light was really bright.
Some thrived, some nearly died off, some just stayed as they were.
Over time I got lazy, the CO2 ran out, I let some other plants at the surface thrive and shadow some of the plants.
At no point did I end up with a bare area though, as one receded another thrived and filled its place. I only wish I'd taken a daily picture now!
Anyway, what I'm saying is if we know about your system we can help you find something that will suit your needs. Some of it will still be trial and error though!Used to try and keep track of my fish here.....
Ran out of room and time!!!
