supplement and lighting schedule?
Couple of questions. As I do research there are a lot of differing opinions on supplements. Some say they don't use anything and only rely on frequent water changes others use only calcium and some use different "trace elements" brands. What are your thoughts and what have you had success with. Also, what lighting schedules do you use? I hear some people say they only use their light 7 hours which seems like very little to me. It seems that if you are trying to simulate a natural environment you would want a longer cycle with a dusk and dawn period to more closely mirror natural sunlight.

As far as dosing supplements go, you need to base that on your water parameters. Specifically: Alkalinity, calcium, and Magnesium. There are no two set-up that will use the same amount. My 120 has a few soft corals and I do not need to dos anything. My 180 has some SPS, LPS, softies, and a lot of coraline and I need to dose at higher levels to maintain my parameters.
Let your test results tell you when/if to dose. The links below can help with that.
As for lighting, I have my lights on for 9 hours on my 180 which has higher demanding corals
