Default I so need a change

I've had the excitement of planted tanks for a few years now and have gotten tired of them. Especially my 55 gallon. Same plants/same fish for the last 5 years. It looks the same everyday and has gotten very boring to me. (Like driving the same car for 10 years.)

I can totally change my cichlid tank in minutes by moving rocks and driftwood and making it look different but not that planted tank. I'm so tired of looking at it that I have debated selling the whole thing but I think I need to do something drastic to bring some life back into this hobby for me.

A total redo, I believe, with some SA cichlids. I think I will not rest until I invest in those Severums I have talked about for years! Or something!

    What about an apisto tank...

    do something simple like this

white sand littered with leaves, a few simple plants, and few pieces of wood. Have a biotope

or or or a 55g SHRIMP TANK!!!! lol (just kidding)

try a breeding project. Those are always a challenge, and rewarding... find something that isn't common locally and use the 55 to breed. Might not be the prettiest tank, but it'd be a challenge and when you do get a spawn the babies can help cover aquarium maintenance costs

I totally agree with firefly and Chris.

I too had a planted 55 gallon tank with live plants and tetras. I moved all the equipment, plants, driftwood, slate, and stock to my Son's new tank downstairs and started the process of setting up a reef tank with a few fish.
I'll tell ya LH, it's like starting anew in the hobby. I spend time every day on it.
Think about it. This site has a very good data base on going salty and a few very experienced members that are really informed and willing to help.

Boy did I get the passion back!
Warning; Bulldog Pleco guarding my Sons tank now..

you ever think about trying to do a big killifish tank? you can swap/sell the eggs for different killies and they dont last too long either... seems like a good way to beat same old tank feeling....
