  1. Default 56 Gallon Community Tank. What do I put in it?!

I upgraded my tank to a 56 gallon from a 40 and moved my 8 Cherry Barbs and Bristlenose Pleco in there. Unfortunately those little guys had to go through the cycling process of the new tank but they all survived and are in good health surprisingly! It finished cycling a few weeks ago and I added 8 Longfin Leopard Danios yesterday. I thought they would school separately but the Barbs and Danios seem to school together.

My tank looks a little empty despite the 17 fish. Because they're smaller it makes it look like there is a lot of space.

I would like to get another type of fish, preferably bigger but not so big that it will eat my little fishies. Any suggestions on what would work best for them? I thought about Gouramis but I've heard they wouldn't do well with my current selection.

I have time to decide because I want to make sure there are no spikes and what not from just adding all those Danios before I put anything else in there. :D

I would consider a pearl gourami if you are into those. Angelfish are always a good centerpiece fish. Bolivian Rams, could up different schools like a school of corys on the bottom and the bolivian ram and be set?
    FW: 1 45gal, 1 40gal, 3 10gal, 3 30gal all community tanks of different species
    Sw: 1 55gal, 1 30gal show, 1 29gal show, 1 20gal and 2 10's

If you've got it cycled; I would up your Barbs and Danio's to a dozen each or more, and take Sandz recomendation of a school of Cory's (your choice) and the centerpiece of a Pearl gourami or Bolivian ram.

Can a single Bolivian Ram live happy or will it need a bff? I was doing a little reading on them and I keep seeing stuff about pairing them.

    They're beautiful fish.

As far as Cichlids go they are one of the most peaceful and can be kept with more than one, but they still have to be watched to make sure that one does not start bulling the others.

Useful to know for the next upgrade. There's no need to put fish trough a cycle if you got an existing tank that's cycle.d

The other tank had a seam leak so it was a bit of an emergency situation. It was an older tank that I had bought used. I would have definitely preferred to keep them in the old cycled tank before moving them to the new one after it cycled but unfortunately I didn't have that option. :/

I was able to use the gravel and filter media and decor from the other tank that had all the beneficial bacteria.
