As to dropping over time, water going into the tank from the tap is 7.6. 1/2 an hour to an hour later, tank water is 6.6.
That was today, in the 90 after a 50% w/c. I didn't check the smaller tanks. I was pooped by then because I cleaned 3 canister filters today.

Think I'll still go for the crushed coral ... just to help buffer that pH a little. Sound right?
I don't see how adding crushed coral in a mesh bag to your filter could hurt anything. It'd be like having a ton of pest snails in your tank that died and left their shells behind. Shouldn't be a problem. Just don't overdo it and you should be fine.

Boy since adding the assassins to my 15 and 30 I've got tons of empty shells. You'd think that alone would bring the pH up but nope. I'm just amazed how those assassins can kill so many MTS. Oh, I've still got some but I don't mind them in this smaller quantity. I'm just hoping the assassins don't get hungry when the MTS population has shrunken so much and start going after my nerites snails. They'll get booted to another tank then.

And as hard as I've worked to keep MTS out of my 90? Well, I've spotted some in there lately. I don't mind as long as they don't start showing up on the glass. If they do - they're going to get the wrath of the assassins.

Worry not, they won't go after the nerites, and it will take some time for those shells to start breaking down...i still find them in my tank, and haven't had live pond snails in months...

It truly is amazing how quickly the assassins can rid a tank of pest snails...

It IS amazing! I never dreamed that one little snail in a 15 gal tank could decimate so many - and we're talking hundreds - of mts. I added 2 assassins to my 30 after that so the mts in that tank are well controlled now tool I like the looks of the assassins also - even though I don't see them often.

Now I have the best of both worlds. Enough mts to keep the soil stirred up, assassins to keep the population down and nerites to keep the glass clean LOL

Oh - and my one lone blue mystery snail in the 15 has laid about 6 egg clutches now. I'm hoping that at least a couple of them hatch. If so, I'll have to take the assassin out of there and put it in the 30 for a while so some of those baby snails can grow.

My black devil snail in the 90 is still going strong too.i

This does sound like the ideal mix of snails! I keep thinking about adding a MTS to my 40, but the LFS guy looked at me like I was crazy and shook his head, muttering something like 'on purpose?'...

I really like that yours has that 'balance' though.

If Matt is warning ya about something, take heed!

I really am very sorry to hear of your Betta too. Please do know that you gave him a beautiful, peaceful 'final home' that he'd have missed out on, if not for you.

    Hey Rivers,
Speaking of snails, I have to do a PWC on the 10G today, I may go ahead and get my 2 yellows out today and introduce them to the 40B!

I'm hoping they're big enough to avoid the "wrath of the assassins", lol
