Per and Kevin have given you some great advice, man Betta health has realy gone down hill over the years since I started, they were actualy considered a good "beginner" fish back in the day but them and fancy guppies................all that "line breeding" has just taken it out of them.
I just hope for your state of mind, you can "bring him around" :(Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.

I've got my plan, everyone seems to agree and I'll give it my best shot.
The video and still shot don't do him justice - his colors are so unusual - such soft blues and pinks and yet very vibrant. and when he's in full flair, oh my, it's a sight.

That's admirable, Cindy. All of these poor little bettas deserve better treatment than they usually get. I think it's great that you've committed to providing for the little guy. It's possible he still has a couple of years in him, despite the ailments. It took mine about 2yrs for the lump to do him in... but I honestly can't recall when I first noticed it. I hope he's able to give you many years of Betta goodness. =]

Thanks everyone. And Kevin, you're right. I'll give him my best and hope maybe he'll have some quality time. The little guy is very active. He's all over that tank. He loves to chase the neons (and some of my neons actually have bodies the same size has his) but he doesn't attack or flare unless he sees me and then he starts to get a little excited.
His tummy is down today after 2 days fasting so maybe he just ate too much. the lump in front of his tail hasn't changed nor has the one on his head.
I'm going to follow through with the metro+ today after I do the W/C and then another dose of prazi pro at the end of the week. Can't hurt.
Hope everyone's having a good day. I'm off to the dentist in a little bit. ug

quick update. Junior (what a horrible name we picked for such a gorgeous fish) continues to do well. He's not nearly as shy any more and comes to the front of the tank when I get near it.
His tummy looks fine now. Still has the body lump toward his tail but it hasn't grown. Neither has the bump on his forehead.
he looks so good, in fact, I decided not to dose with metro +. I may really need it sometime and it may not be as effective if I use it now.
Oddly, he turns his nose up at betta pellets and goes for the fish flakes instead. Maybe it's because he's still a baby (or at least a very young juvie) and the flakes are easier to handle. He will sometimes suck a pellet into his mouth but then spits it back out.
Anyway, so far so good with this special little guy.
One other note: I added a single assassin snail to this 15 gallon a couple of months ago. 2 weeks ago I added another. Today, I removed one of the snails and added it to the 30 because it seems my MTS population has been greatly reduced. Can I hear a: Yee Haw!!! Oh, they're still in the tank but rarely do I see one on the glass now or congregated on my algae wafers so the assassin did his thing. I don't want to starve him so that's why I put the 2nd one in the 30.
Go big A!

This is great news, "Junior" is a fine name, no worries!...he's a juvie, the "bumps" are just pimples, we all had them, they'll disappear in time
When I was "blessed" to discover that my beloved wife and daughter had brought home a betta and decided that an oversized pickle jar would be a nice home for him, I was also "blessed" that night to discover they had also bought some special "betta pellets" too, that all bettas must have, I suppose they supposed at the time of their impulse buy
Those "betta pellets" were a complete waste of money, in my experience...I think I even threw them away
Flake food is just fine for our "Henry"...he even likes the micro veggie pellets that float momentarily, and any other floating food, including the occasional small fly or mosquito we can give him
Good deal with the assassins, and after their natural prey is gone, you don't have to do anything special to feed them...they'll forage, and do just fine...especially if they run across newly laid fish eggs..which they find completely delicious
