Some basic shrimp questions
First off, see my sig for my 10 gallon tank, that I would like to add some shrimp too. My LFS only handles glass (grass) shrimp as feeders mostly, and I would like to buy about 10 or so red cherry shrimp. I've never kept shrimp before, and I have read that the RCS are an easy beginner shrimp.
So it looks like I will be getting the shrimp online, and through the mail. I was wondering where you guys bought your shrimp from. i found a few websites, like this one (http://www.eliteinverts.com/buy-freshwater-shrimp/), but the shipping costs are kinda high for guaranteed delivery of live shrimp....For instance, Elite Inverts wants $34.99 for 10 RCS, and around $35 MORE to guarantee live delivery...
Do you guys alway pay the "guaranteed live" price, or have any of you paid the lower price and "hoped for the best"?...I've searched for maybe a local aquarist club in my area, where I could maybe find some of the RCS locally, but have had no luck...
If you guys have any suggestions/links to where you have bought your shrimp with satisfaction, I would appreciate it if you'd drop me a line here...
Any other pros/cons of buying shrimp online are certainly welcome here, too...
Also, as a side subject, I've read elswhere in the forums where people have started off with a handful of shrimp, and have ended up with dozens after breeding, whether they wanted them or not!...not real sure how that would go over in a 10 gallon tank with fish...any comments on that are greatly welcome too...
Thanks for reading!

Slaphppy7 have you checked the Internet for a local aquarium society or club?
I found a site which was in a nearby city that held auctions and such. A member of that club bred cherry red shrimp to take to these auctions. He also had them for sale at his home. I was able to purchase 40 very red cherries for $20.00 from him. It took a bit of investigative work to find him but it was so worth it. His shrimp have multiplied to the point I have introduced them into a larger tank filled with Cardinals, Harlequins, Green fire tetras, neons, cories, a red tailed shark and a pleco. It's my sons set-up now but the shrimp are doing well in that tank. Mind you there are alot of dense java moss spots and driftwood in that tank but seeing the cherries out in the open scavenging is priceless.
Check for a local hobbyist on the net. Great deals to be had compared with lfs or on-line purchases.Warning; Bulldog Pleco guarding my Sons tank now..
Please remember; every keystroke has a consequence.

+1 to the local club.
We have a fairly active one here in the midwest (missouri region) and people are always looking to buy/sell plants, fish, equipment. Super nice folks and a good deal compared to the chain stores. Otherwise, it's always nice to support the local fish stores (within reason)
