Default Planted 10 gallon Betta Tank Stocking?

So I'm planning a 10 gallon setup with hornwort, java fern, java moss, maybe some others. For the fish I've decided on getting a betta and a small school of pygmy cories (probably 6). I'd also like to get shrimp and/or otos to help out with algae. Could I put in 5 amano shrimp and 3 otos, if i supplement the otos diet with spinach or zucchini? or would I be better with just amanos or just otos?

keep the lighting on the low end and you shouldnt have an issue with algae with that hornwort. it will grab nutrients as fast if not faster than algae. i wouldnt add the otos at all but shrimp would be nice. i wouldnt go with amano but RCS because they reproduce and can hide in the hornwort. maybe throw in some fire moss for them. the reason youd want them to reproduce is the betta could loose it one day and kill off alot of shrimp, if the babies are hiding then you wont have too much to worry about.

Ooh ok. I didn't realize that the hornwort would help with the algae. And the RCS will be cheaper and easier to find than the amano, so that sounds like a good plan to me. Will there be any chance that the RCS would reproduce too quickly, or will the corys and betta take care of that. How many should I start with?

I think i got 12 rcs for 10$ and thats 100% giving at least 1 of each sex. If you want to start small and can pick them out then shoot for 5/6 and try to get at least 3 females.

The rcs could possibly reproduce to large qty but thats not really a problem, just pick some out as you see the numbers increasing too much. They can be used as a live food treat or sold to other lfs/aquarist. The corys may pick off the rare baby, the betta would probably take a few babies as well so dont expect an explosion. Anything under 60 total shrimp should be fine as they produce a very small bio load.

But again if the shrimp were for algar control then try just with those plants first
