I found BN1 dead on the sand this morning. I think he was on the sand since yesterday because he didn't have the ability to hang from the driftwood.

BN2 is showing the same symptom of a slightly swollen belly. She is also not eating. I set-up my QT for BN2, but the temp hadn't reached 86 by the time I had to leave for work. Will transfer her when I get home. I registered with planetcatfish and posted for advice/treatment help and maybe some insight as to what happened to these two previously very healthy fish.

I am devastated by his loss. He was the most entertaining and cool fish I have ever seen and I was very glad and proud that he was mine. If it's okay to feel affection for a fish, I felt it for him. When the ich is gone, I will get 2 more BNs.

On a happier note, all the other fish (other than BN2) are showing a marked improvement. My male rainbow (who had the ich spots from head to tail) has only 1 or 2 spots. Other fish who had spots are showing none. I am going to take fishmommie's advice and get a magnifying glass to make sure that after the 2 weeks are up, there are no spots at all.

Thanks to all (especially jaysee and fishmommie) for helping me thru this. I feel very guilty for bringing the glowlights home, as that is when the trouble started. They showed no signs of illness at any time. From now on, new fish will spend 4 weeks in the QT. Please don't tell me to not beat myself up over this, because I am going to do just that. I also will not be getting any more fish from that LFS, as the ich had to come from the glowlights. I have seen notes on their tanks that ich meds were being administered, but I checked the day I got the glowlights and no tanks were being medicated on that day.

I feel that I failed my BNs and the only way to get past that is to learn from my mistake. This was a lesson learned the very hard way.

I'm so sorry about your BN. they are such comical little things and it's so easy to grow attached to them. I know you feel bad but sometimes fish come with problems that take a long time to manifest.

Since your other BN is showing the same signs, it makes one wonder if internal parasites might be the problem.
If you don't find anything helpful at planet catfish, and not knowing what's wrong with him, I think you'd be safe QTing him asap and dosing with Prazi Pro and 1/2 dose of metro+. Both act as wormers and are very gentle. the metro+ also contains an antibiotic.
I worm my fish every 6 months with both so I don't think you could be making the situation worse.
I'd also fast him just in case.
Good luck and let us know how things go.

It can be quite difficult to treat multiple issues. There's no way to know that the 2 degree difference had anything to do with it, and that the fish wouldn't have died had it stayed at 86. In all honesty, it very well may have died had you not raise the temp at all, though it probably would have taken an extra day or two. I hope BN2 doesn't follow suit.

It's called Metro with a red + sign, by Healthaid.
And with that high temp, make sure to keep the water really clean with daily W/C's. according to badman's tropical fish forum, the BNP can tolerate the 86 F.
    again, good luck

jaysee, BN1 was never in the QT at the 88 degree temp. he never made it out of the 75 gallon, which was never higher than 86. his issues began well before I ever raised the tank temp.

I'm a little confused here - was the BNP currently in QT ever in the tank that was exposed to ich? If not, he needn't be kept at 86F. I'd gradually lower the temp.
