Okay, shrimp everywhere!!! And Sandz says get twenty!!! You mentioned tubes to hide in - what kind of tubes - like PVC tubing?

I will check with my LFS to see if they have them. If they do, I can get them when I pick up my male rainbow. They look fascinating on the videos I have seen. This would complete my tank nicely.

    The more the merrier lol

Any hiding spaces would do but a lot of breeders use tubes like this:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/FLUVAL-EBI-F...item4155d2c400

You can make them out of pvc and use java moss to cover it.

I have 4 amanos in my 46gal - they have never been bothered by any of my fish - added them when the tank was 6 mos old. As a matter of fact they bully my corys at feeding time (steal pellets, etc.) - they are all over the tank. They are each about 2" long and I remember thinking they'd be better than ghost or cherry shrimps because they started off larger.

My LFS has them as "algae eating shrimp" at $4 each - a little steep. Found this seller http://msjinkzd.com/about_msjinkzd/ (Invertebrates by Msjinkzd) and I emailed her for a price (10 for $18) including shipping. Got the link from theplantedtank forum.

If they breed in your tank, you night not have to purchase a huge number, providing the little ones survive. Give lots and lots of cover and let nature be nature. A certain number of these animals always survive in the wild, where conditions are unpredictable and unmanaged. Their odds are much better in an aquarium's controlled environment. Some will get eaten, but the larger the number the better their chances. If they breed, you could end up with all you could ever want or need.

Thanks, everyone. Waiting for the shipping cost from the online seller. If it's too high, I might try 5 from my LFS and see how they do. Then up the numbers.

I assume you quarantine the shrimp, just like fish?

    Question

Got a reply from Invertebrates by Msjinkzd - the amanos are $2 each and shipping is only $13.

I'm still unsure about shrimp safety in my 75 gal, so I am considering setting up an amano shrimp tank. Maybe a 20 long, with
10-20 shrimp and a school of 10 peppered cories. I'm thinking the 20 long is better than the 20 high, as it gives more length for the cories. I can find a place for the 20 gal, as it's not a lot of weight and has a reasonable size footprint. Maybe do a set-up with sand substrate, some small driftwood pieces and a couple different types of moss (OMG, a live plant!) and some dried leaves (a tank filled with live plants to maintain really intimidates me). Even with just the moss, I will need advice and direction.

A 20 long is 30.3 x 12.5 x 12.8 - is this enough room for 10 cories? Is one AC50 okay or would 2 filters be better (or too much)?

    Possible MTS, here I come!!!

    AC 50 is perfect for a 20G.

Two filters too much? You can never have too much filtration but it is possible to have too much flow.
