Post Wisdom Tooth Surgery - Second Time Around

    0 Not allowed!
I had my second surgery yesterday to remove a troublesome lower wisdom tooth (the last of two to be removed). The first was a very traumatic experience, the surgeon had a lot of trouble getting it out and I had the bone drilled...all this under local anaesthetic. Eek.

Anyway, after experiencing excruciating pain and developing nearly every post-operative complication going, I was NOT looking forward to the second one. But this time was much quicker, much easier, and they sent me home with prescription painkillers this time. WOW...my goodness me do they knock you out!

Feeling delicate today but no where near as much pain and swelling as the last one. Hopefully I will escape all the complications too. Fingers crossed.

Hope you continue to recover! Glad things are better for you this time around. Can't believe they didn't send you home with pain killers after the first go round.

Good luck with getting past this

Maybe it was just having one removed this time? I wish you a fast recovery whatever it was.

I've only had two out. One removed at a time.

Cheers all. Been using ice packs on my face so I look less like Marlon Brando in The Godfather than I did last time!

Everyone has such different experiences with their wisdom teeth...I'm just thinking back to myself (I only had 2, and had both out under anethetic) and my kids...

None of us had a particularly bad experience (my daughter reacted to the pain meds she was given...she didn't go under, only local), and only my older son had minor swelling...so I guess we're lucky!

I am glad that this 2nd tooth removal was more straightforward for you.

Yeah, last time I had really awful bruising, HUGE hamster-cheek swelling, lots and lots of pain (enough to have me sobbing on the couch for the first two days!), and then a nice case of dry socket after that which wasn't much fun.

This time, I hope, things are better. Far less swelling and not a lot of pain...thankfully. If I can get through the next week with no other symptoms I may have escaped this one unscathed.

I'm hoping they can genetically engineer people in the future to be born without wisdom teeth...they're useless things!

My son needs to have 4 removed - they plan to do all at once under GA. I'm trying to save enough money because even with insurance its a few hundred but the earlier it's done, the better off he'll be - he's 20.

Good luck with your recovery - sounds like it's better this time for you!

Cheers, yeah. Thankfully I have had all this for free on the NHS.

The younger son has his 4 out when he was 16...again, no problems. We had to pay upfront, but were then reimbursed. I was so glad we were reimbursed. It was over $2000.

Hey! I saw NHS signs all over the place last week! They were everywhere! Not that they shouldn't be...just funny that I saw them...
