    0 Not allowed!
I screwed up and started cycleing with 3 mollies in 29gal. tank(new hobby 4 me).
I did a 50% water change today and i only put clorinater in for the 15 gallons of new water.
    was this wrong?
I have ordered a deecent water test kit hoping it comes by tomorrow. water seems clouldy but the 3 molliesseem active. also have some live grass in there.

Any tips would be apperciated. thank you in advance for your time

When you do water changes you need to put enough dechlorinator in for the entire body of water, i.e your 29 gallons and not the 15 gallons you replaced.

Please take a couple minutes and read this article regarding cycling with fish.

You will need to add enough de-chlor for the ENTIRE amount of water your tank holds, not just what you are replacing...for instance, for a 29 gallon tank, you need to add enough to treat 29 gallons, after a 50% water change...

What kind of de-chlor do you use?...Seachum's Prime is one of the best, it does more than just de-chlorinate

I had a mollie, a platy, and 2 snails survive just fine...heck, I think they MISS the daily water changes, lol...follow that link that mojosodope gave you regarding cycling with fish, follow it exactly, and you should be fine...BE PATIENT...I cycled with fish, and it took a FULL MONTH of daily water changes to get it right...you can do it

When you are using a python water changer to add the new water directly to the tank it is often recommended to add enough dechlor for the whole tank. But if your are using buckets to refill you only need to dechlorinate for the amount of water you are putting back in, add the dechlor to the bucket of water before you dump it in the tank.
When I go fishing I just throw sharp rocks in the water and wait for the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

HB beat me to it, if you are adding the water in small quantities that you can treat separate, then add enough to treat the water inside the bucket, otherwise treat the entire tank.

but in your case you might want to treat the entire tank regardless because prime can detoxify ammonia and help the fish survive...
