Thread: Missing catfish

  1. Default Missing catfish

Ok, my 2 S.A. Bumblebee catfish are MIA. I saw one about 2 or 3 days ago, but nothing since. I've done a couple of water changes without seeing both of them swimming around. And with this morning's change out I came across a fish bone, or maybe it was one their 'whiskers'.

Can they die that quickly without a trace? or are they that good at hiding?

From what I have heard bumblebee catfish are very good at hiding. What are the tank mates? anything large enough to eat them?

The goldies haven't bothered them before or the wee Otis

Could they have not gotten enough food, died and then the goldfish ate the remains? The goldfish I have is constantly checking the gravel for food.

I don't know. I kept trying to put the food under the decoration..hollowed our area under it and 'fake grass' around. I saw Katniss 2 nights ago...but nothing since :(

Hmm, I would check though all of the various decorations in your tank and look for them, also very very unlikely but could they have jumped?

    I don't think so. I have a full cover. I guess I'll gently search

if you found a fish bone and there's no trace of them, it's very likely they got devoured after dying. goldfish eat like champs (hence their messy reputation and their rep for...excrement haha). they also scavenge and will eat carrion that is even several days old. when a fish dies, it bloats, and the skin quickly begins to decompose...meaning that breakdown makes it very easy for scavenging, always "hungry" fish to get deep inside the body and take out large chunks, meaning it gets eaten fairly quickly...

i hope you find them but if you want some "closure", do a gravel vac in a day or two and search for fish bones that get sucked up that either were left behind or got eaten (fish bones are very soft and ingestible by fish large enough to do so)

I think I caught a glimpse of Lacey last night. Katniss was the strong swimmer..and he's unaccounted for, behind enemy lines
