Default Electric Blue Ram just found out about them and I'm considering changing my plan.

They remind me of electric blue jacks I loved and they stay small I really want one; my LFS can't get them so I'd have to order online. MY sig says all you need to know its very heavy on driftwood; plants and I have black pvc caves if needed. The tanks been going 4 months about and I have a lot of experience with bigger cichlids and harder to care for blue jacks.

He would be the centerpiece of my tank so my question is do I want a wild caught? I tend to prefer breeders selling home bred are there any? I also read about them giving them hormones etc which I detest. Does anyone know a solid supplier of home grown ones? or is it mostly wild caught :/

I planned to get more tetras but when I saw these I was awe stuck I'm not worried about biomass or filtration ( I turn the tank over 20 times an hour 2 jebos and a an emp 400) I also change half the water twice a week. Also half the tank has a moderate current and the other has next to none with how it is setup.

I got the baby BN so far so good but most likely he will be going back when he gets bigger so that opens up some more room as well.

I'm willing to pay the price for the right fish I can only have a 29g so I want the best.

What's your water like? Blue is a bred colour variety as dar as I know so there will be no wild caught fish.

Also a pair might well claim most of the tank.

A friend of mine has 4 in a 20g tank, I would only recommend a pair. They are very difficult to breed, not sure why. But he has had a few issues with them and being picky over water. While they look awesome, they need to be in a fairly light stocked tank. In his he has 1 BN, the 4 Rams, and 2 surface swimming fish (not sure what).

I'd recommend two, and like talldutchie said, its not a dyed thing or wild caught, they are just selectively bred that way

So similar to electric blue jacks. I was thinking of getting a single one for my 29g. It's moderately stocked (the BN pleco can go) I think a pair would probably beat on my other fish.

Thx for the link mommie I actually read that when I found out about them iirc they only had the electric blue jacks like 9 years ago or so; I've been out of the hobby awhile.

Has anyone bought fish off wetspot on aquabid? I'd feel bette rknowing he's a good seller.

I picked up more corys recently and I've noticed a very small ammonia spike like 1ppm sometimes so I'm thinking I'll wait until later this month to pick one up as my centerpiece fish.

Will 78 degrees be alright or should I adjust my temp for this guy?

Also can someone recommend some food specific for this cichlid I have a good variety atm just nothing for dwarf cichlids and im going to order ferts online so I wanna get this stuff too.

I used to live in portland so thats my home shop. THey are more than quality. 78 degrees will be fine, treat them like a normal ram. They can take normal flakes, if you really want to focus on blue there are a number of articles out there on food additives to really make these fish shine.
