That might work, so far they haven't bothered it, but it's in a fishless cycle...so no temptation.

Hoods are easy to make.
Just don't use MDF unless a total seal and no exposed edges.
I have made 4 fish tank stands and hoods , as I worked in a Cabinet shop for 3 plus years, real easy to do.
Use white Oak for internal structure and after sealed with a good Poly finish good to go for many years.

One more thing is this a SW tank?
Fish only or FW as if SW and Reef setup I think the bed is to thick.
If FW okay then.
But on SW you need live rock, and I still think the bed is to thick.
1/2" is what is said to be the best.
Okay I see some rock so a base rock but get some other Live rock in there even if fish only, will do you a world of good.
Use a small power head ,maybe two set on timers one on one off gives that wave effect.
SW critters got to have that moving effect, especially if you are thinking of any kind of Coral's .
