Fish don't usually just jump out of the water, there is usually a reason. Going after food to vigorously, toxic water, trying to get away from an aggressor, or startled by something outside the tank are a few reasons that come to mind. I am sorry you lost a fish, that always sucks, but have you tested the water parameters lately or witnessed any aggression?
When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Sorry for the loss Tate. Weird way to go.

I've no idea if Harleys are jumpers but if that was a cherry barb it would be classic - I lost one recently to jumping (and knew they were jumpers as have had to rescue healthy "bucket-escapees" on several occasions.

There are many types of fish that are jumpers, not disputing that, what I meant was when they jump out of the tank on land on the floor it is usually because of miscalculation on their part caused by excitement, distraction or desperation.

I do a 70% water change on all 3 of my tanks every Tuesday. My ammonia and Nitrites are always 0 and my Nitrates are usually around 10. All of my other fish are fine. No aggression issues. Peaceful community tank of Harleys, Cardinals and Cory Cats.
