New here and to aquarium life
My name is Dee and I've had a 46gal bow-front with cichlids for about a year now. I'm now wanting to set up a 40gal planted tank but have no idea as to where to start. Any input will help. I don't expect to do this overnight, I know it takes time and is a delicate process. I eventually want to add a couple of German rams although I hear they are very hard to keep. I mainly need to know what substrate, Light and type of plants are good for beginners.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
