I think your on the right track. Now that I think about it, 12" high is really shallow, I had trouble visualizing it till I thought thats the same height as a 10g lol. Really not tall enough for the big fish. Something planted with surface fish like hatchets or butterfly fish would be really neat. It would also make a hell of Riparium setup if you could figure that out. I tried one once and failed miserably but it can be done :)

Lol, tell me about it! It is the oddest thing. I think I'll post some pics this weekend so that other AC'ers can take a look.

Sadly, I never heard of a Riparium. Thankfully, Google is our friend, so I'm sure I can look into it. One of the best things is that I'm so early in the planning stages, I'm not fully vested in anything and can try eveything before I stock it =)

This sounds a fascinating project, and a challenge. I like the suggestions so far. I think if I had a tank like this, had a little time and money, I would consider an open topped set up with overhanging lighting. Planted.

I really like the hillstream idea though - for such a long, shallow tank that'd be great.

A hill stream is pretty much top of the"if I'm ever allowed a second tank" list for me.

I took a look at a really cool Riparium and added the link to a previous post. That post w/link didnt publish though. The whole concept of an open tank with suspended lighting and underwater and floating surcface live plants looked great. I don't think I have the time and money to do a really good Riparium :(

Never heard of a Hillstrem, either (wow, I am really behind here), but I'm going to look that up as well. Thanks for the ideas.

Here is what my odd little baby looks like. Right now she's taken up residence in the garage until I start planning her out...
