  1. Default More lemon tetras or another species?

I recently decided to cut out the GBR in my 29g planted so I'm planning to add 6 more corys so 12 in all (most likely melini corys so they will be on the smaller size) and I'm thinking if I wanna add to my 10 lemon tetras or possibly add a new species of tetra. They regularly drop eggs so they are rather happy as is but the thought of another species they would school with is more appealing than adding maybe 6 more lemons.

My question is will they school with any other species in particular? or should I just add more lemons; don't get me wrong I like them but adding some red phantoms or some other similar shaped tetra if they will school together sounds appealing. I can get just about any tetra you can name or order them so please let me know of your experiences.

Currently have a 29g planted with 14 candy cane tetras, 6 sterbai corys, 6 melini corys, a roided out tiger angelfish and 1 mustache wearing albino longfin pleco.
Oh and they all get along amazingly!!! went through 4 BN plecos and 2 angelfish until I got ones with the right temperament but it's the most mellow tank now.

I personally think Harlequin rasbora are a great choice for another schooler. Small bodied but high color.

That's a really cool looking fish; I'd have to see if I can order them I never knew they existed until now lol. I'd imagine I'd want 8 or so; they also have a similar body type and size as my lemons which is nice.

They are extremely common in all stores. Any LFS should have them readily available.

I'm in the middle of nowhere and only have 2 LFS within 100 miles of me and 1 of them specializes in saltwater mainly but will order me anything they can get. The other is mostly FW but doesn't do special orders and that one has plants but not much variety or quality compared to online sellers.

The only tetras I see usually are neon, black neon, priscilla, headlight, black phantom, and a few other common varieties I can't think of atm.

I actually had to special order my lemon tetras and sterba corys though the MTS were free lol.

Harlequins are nice fish, got them myself. If the lemons do well then so should these. Do get at least 6, maybe 7. These guys bicker a bit amongst themselves and that's better spread with a bigger group.

there's actually 3 different species of harlequin, care is the same, looks differ but they're not that keen on schooling with eachother so make sure you get all the same species.

An alternative if you happen to have some floating plants would be half a dozen of any of the smaller pencil fish, that way you got something at the top pf the water as well.

Pencil fish sound neat I have no clue wtf they are but I do need top water dwellers; I'll have to check them out. I have plenty of floating plants so much so they are taking over my tank!

With pencil fish how they describe slow waters and them holding themselves upright in such a way; would my current be too much? I have an emp 400 and 2 jebos so one side of the tank is mild but the other is rather strong for a 29g. For example the floating plants on the emp. 400 side are always being jostled around.

That's not going to work then. Back to harlequins, they like to surf a bit especially if they think there's a snack in it for them.
