    Exclamation expired food?

    0 Not allowed!
    hi guys.
just now i was checking out my fish food.
    reading it... etc
when i noticed my fry food is expired.
it said it expires 01/2012. well i have been feeding my platy fry this for the past 2 months.
is this just a scam to make us buy more food or is it the real deal.
i am also concerned because i fed my main tank this once in a while to mix things up.
if it is the real deal, what is going to happen? how can i prevent it?
    thanks

Well, if it's dry food, you're probably fine, but I'm sure if fish can taste staleness, they're probably not enjoying it. ;P Would you eat an expired bag of chips? Maybe an expired oreo cookie?

You would if you were starving and that's all you had... go get some new food, you cheapskate. ;P

As mentioned.. It is likely fine, However...

The nutritional value of old out of date food is likely to have deteriorated. This alone is reason to replace it with high quality food IMO.

No point in feeding crap [old] food you know.

Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.

A warm beer is better than a cold beer. Because nothing is better than a cold beer, and a warm beer is better than nothing.

Yep. Nutritional value would be my main concern.

I don't know why they make such big pots for fish food. I never, ever finish a pot. I use one for around a year and then replace it (as I don't like it being open for that long). I always buy the smallest pot they have of any particular kind.

Wondering that myself. The only thing I can actually finish in a reasonable amount of time are the smallest size hikari packets.

I agree - those huge containers of food won't be finished by the expiration date even if someone has several tanks, simply because people vary what they feed. Best to use up smaller containers to keep it fresh.

sadly i won't be needing this baby fish formula. all my other food are good till 2014 or 15.
i didn't know that fish food had expire dates.
i am 99% sure that i bought this food expired.
i won't be feeding this junk anymore.
i did mix this food with some small pellets for the fry most of the time.
    thanks for the help though

ive read that freezing the food will make it last longer, therefor the expiration dates wouldnt be accurate.

I've heard that, as well. Even just refrigerating them, instead of keeping them at room temperature would extend its' life.
