They have to get back to you - even if you wouldn't qualify for coverage for some reason. Call them again.

Syringed and packed socket - took 5 minutes. The syringing was excruciating...but it's settled now. I'm scared to eat or drink anything now though! I fear this may take ages to heal I need to keep going back to get it cleaned and re-packed.

Anyone who had dry socket - how long before it healed? It's really disruptive to my work as the hospital is nowhere near the office so I keep having to resort to working from home.

Oh darn. I feel your pain! I had a dry socket last fall. They're pretty miserable. And I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it's going to take a long time to heal. Many trips back to have the gauze removed, the socket rinses out and repacked.
So sorry you're going through this. The good news is, as the new gum tissue begins to grow over the exposed bone, the repacking procedure become less and less painful.
Are they using a cloves paste? If so - more sympathy. NOTHING tastes as horrible as that stuff in the strength they use.
    Good luck!

How long is a long time? Weeks, months? I'm supposed to be going away in two weeks...not sure that will happen now.

Yeah, they're using clove paste - no gauze. I actually don't mind the taste because it's far, far preferable to the "rotting carcass"-like taste I had in my mouth before. Ugh...it's grim. What a pain!

Oh, it was several weeks, I'm afraid. Mine was an upper tooth, so it was difficult to keep the gauze in place. they'd pack with the clove paste first then the gauze. If yours is a lower tooth, it might make a difference. Maybe they can give you the materials you need to pack it your self because I'm pretty certain you aren't going to be healed in two weeks. Again, good luck!

I did ask if I could do it myself and they said no. Hmmm...I'll ask them again just before we go away.

Firefly I am sooo sorry you have dry socket... Ugh... I remember it hurt to even breathe! I hope you recover quicker than I did. I was down for like a month?

After being in agony last night it seems to be improving today. I'm not getting shooting electric bolt pain when I drink water at the moment. Here's hoping.

I went to the pharmacy and picked up supplies for a weekend survival kit. Clove oil, clove oil gel, Anbesol, pain killers, and antiseptic antibac mouthwash. What a rock 'n' roll weekend ahead of me.
