Stick a stainless steel fork [Dinner fork] through a slice of it and it will sit on the bottom.

Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.

Stick a fork in it and drop it in the tank. I just cut off a slice, skin intact, and remove it the next day.

Also, if you have a pleco, it would appreciate some wood to hide in.

Bristlenose do like their hiding places but it doesn't need to be wood. Even half a flowerpot will already be greatly appreciated. These fish will create their own if there's nothing else.

A more aesthetic option, at least in my view is to purchase a veggie clip(its like a clothespin with a suction cup) and use that to anchor the vegetable piece wherever you want it. Considering that it will be a long term investment the initial expense should be worth it.

I used to put an elastic band around a strip or cucumber an fix it to a smooth stone in the tank. I also used to feed Romaine lettuce which my plecos and silver dollars loved. The fork is an excellent idea - especially if you make sure it goes in the tank prongs down (in case of clumsy fish hurting themselves)

I decided to give the fork trick a go myself. I blanched the brocoli and a slice of carrot in boiling water for 5 minutes before putting them in.

I don't have a pleco, but the fish have been picking at it - I think it needs to be softened more for them to really eat it as since putting it in it doesn't look much different other than it's covered in baby assassin snails!

Thanks for the correction again but BN do need wood in their diet to regulate their system and give them fiber. Flower pots work for algae but do not add fiber.

firefly, I would remove that broccoli so they can get to the cucumber. No point in putting more in the tank than they can eat in 24 hours.
