  1. Default Opinions on setting up 125 Gallon

Well as the last tank I have I want to set it up.

I need lights and a filter.

I was thinking of a single large cannister filter and some lights about 250 watts or close by.

Thinking of LED but can't figure out the wattage rating.

I see some for around $129.00 fro bank of 48 " which I can use two and stagger them in the hood or go with VHO lights.

Opinions and as to fish have no idea maybe a tank of two species Tiger Barbs Cherry barbs?

Will cycle with that ammonia deal as that was way cool.

    Thanks

    Jeff

For a filter. I would suggest two rena XP3 canister filters. That would handle anything you could stock in 125 gallon tank should your stocking plans change down the road

As for a lighting recommendations, I would first like to ask if you are planning to keep plants and what type of plants you would like to keep ?
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

You should be able to find some great deals on the Fluval Fx5 now as the FX6 is out.

for filtration I would recommend a fluval fx5 canister and aquaclear110 HOB. will give your tank much better flow/turnover.

And of course there's also the fluval '06 series and the various Eheims. Lots of good filters to chose from. Personally I'd shop for a pair of gently used 2217s.

Getting proper leds on something this big will probably end up quite expensive.

Please don't stock this tank with tiger and cherry barbs only

That would be like having a Ferrari and only driving it through the village at 20 mph....

Look for a more exciting fish. Just my $.02

You're going to want high lighting, especially with those micro swords. If you can afford it I highly recommend these guys:

You can also customize the led strips to match your current specifications/needs. They're one of the preferred leds companies on theplantedtank, the downside is the price but for what you're getting, it's worth it.

Looking at a used C-530 filter, lights , still thinking I will make my own setup on them.

I think maybe compacts or VHO maybe 4 to 6 want to keep the light below 300 watts.

    Thinking along 250 or so.
