Goldfish in Rubbermaid Tubs???
I've heard/seen people use rubbermaid tubs, as a cheaper alternative, for keeping Goldfish! I guess this is non-traditional, but i would like your thoughts on this matter. Is it healthy for the fish? How would maintenance differ from a tank? What would be the major differences other than "the look" be?
You're thoughts/advice would be appreciated.

If it doesn't leach chemicals and you maintain it properly and it is of a proper size(40 gal+ for fancies, 90 + for commons) then it simply is a space to live in as far as the fish is concerned. I see several issues though:
- sides may bulge and sustain damage
- filters and other equipment may not fit properly due to different shape of rim
- only top viewing possible, which will be hard due to light fixture above
- since a Rubbermaid tub cannot be viewed from the side, it will have to be placed low. An attempt to use a conventional water siphon to do cleanup will be slow and inefficient or fail outright.

...also - this is for inside, right? If you're considering keeping them in this outside be aware that the water will heat up in the sun VERY quickly in a rubber tub."Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known." Carl Sagan

I've heard, and seen, people using rubber-made tubs as well as kiddie swimming pools as ponds. Usually though they are set IN the ground, in a shaded area. I haven't seen one in use in a house this way except for the storage of fish that are about to be shipped. I'm sure people do though, wouldn't surprise me.2 10 gallon tanks, 1 20 gallon tank, 1 Fluval Edge, 1 29 gallon tank, and one backyard pond.
