  1. Default Lost an Oto, not sure why

Yesterday I noticed one of my 3 oto's acting strangly, lying down on the bottom, either on his side or front. Then today I found him dead at the front of the tank, no idea why? My tank has plenty of algae on the front glass so im sure they are getting fed... but you be the judges, here is one of my other Oto's:

    And the dead one:

I should note that just over a week ago I was cleaning my tank with a pipe and one of the Oto's got siphoned out into the bath, I netted him back in and he seemed fine, so I guess this could have been that one, but they all look pretty similar so I have no way of knowing.

27 Gallon planted: Super Dragon Betta, Neon Tetras, Honey Gourami, Rummy Nose Tetra, Checker barbs, Bolivian Ram, Otocinclus, Amano shrimp, Assassin snails.

75 Gallon Reef: Ocellaris Clownfish pair, Firefish, Royal Gramma, Bangaii Cardinal, Midas Blenny, Coral Beauty Angelfish, Cleaner Shrimp, 18+ crabs and snails

Are these new otos? Did the deceased look particularly fat or particularly thin?

Otos are very sensitive fish. They are known to just die sometimes. Yes that could be the one you siphoned, yes the stress could have been a variable in it... But what are your other parameters ? Ammonia nitrites nitrates ph in tank and ph out of tap. All those would be a great help for us to help you.

Ammonia and Nitrite 0, Nitrate around 10-20. PH around 7.6 in the tank, ive never tested it from the tap as I dont have a test kit (my local store tested my water).

Other then ottos dying randomly I would get a test kit asap and make sure the tap doesn't come out at a different ph. About a month ago I had 3 ottos die on me after a water change, the ph in the tank is stable at 7.8 but it got as high as 8.3 or 8.4 right after the change.
    20 gallon tall: empty
29 gallon: moderately planted with 9 bloodfin tetra, 1 german blue ram, 11 glow light tetra and 1 BNP
    10 gallon QT: empty

otos are super sensitive to ph swing thats why i asked about the tap vs tank water. test kits will save you in the long run i promise..... get the liquid not the strips...
