ok, new 20 long divided, water 79-80.0 4 bettas in tank other 3 are fine, all params are in check. so with that out of the way. it is divided so all water Is passing through, so if one sick they all are, wich elimanates, a normal fish sickness since all my others are fine, actually more than fine, one has bubble nested his whole top. anyway. one factor he is my first and oldest boy. second, he was in a 2.5 all his life, rescenly moved to a 5.5 for 2 days then to the big house. 3rd day in, lost color and laying sideways on side of tank breathing heavy. ok he is know in his 1 gallon QT. half full with a betta leaf near top to lay on. since being in the QT, he has stopped his heavy breathing. still props againest the bottem of tank and occasionaly goes to top for air. poor boy even whiel he feels bad if i go near tank he gets all excited for me..
never thought id tear up over a fish, but the fact he feels bad but gets happy when he sees me, almost gives it human qualities, since i am the only one it perks to, anyway. so maybe stress from having to much space, or as said he is 4 or 4 1/2. is he just getting old. any suggestions.

So sorry. Bettas are so personable and likable.
4 and 1/2 years is a good run for a betta. So it could be age is factoring in to all this moving him around and it's stressed him.
are the water perimeters and conditions vastly different from his original tank?
Water temps different? Filtration different? Any chance the PH is different?

It also could be stress from being able to see the other bettas. All the flaring that entails might be too much for him. I would keep him out of the divided tank, put him in his old digs (even though more room would be better) and see how he reacts

Good luck! I hope he snaps out of it.

The ph might have something to do with it but my others are fine. He never fairs, never has. Idk why but since I got him he never did. Also flairing doesn't bother him since my old tanks were side by side. Maybe the moving. I honestly don't know

I hate to say it but I think it might be time to let him go.
He's had a good long life with you, one you've both enjoyed.
I had to put my old betta down last month. It's never easy.
Good luck and I'm so sorry.

This fish, at his advanced age, has likely been shocked by the move. The older a Betta gets the less it likes change in its environment. He does not need medication, but likely return him to the old setup he last enjoyed and keep the water clean. There is no cure for shock, either he will make it, or he won't.
2 10 gallon tanks, 1 20 gallon tank, 1 Fluval Edge, 1 29 gallon tank, and one backyard pond.
