  1. Default New Filter and Cycling

Hello! I currently have a fully cycled, live plant, 36 gallon with 5 peppered corys, 5 platys, 11 neon tetra, 1 dwarf gourami, and 4 netrite snails. I currently have a Whisper 40i and a Whisper 10i in the tank. Side note: I didn't realize that my 40i wouldn't be enough when I originally purchased the tank and thanks to some helpful members here, I know I need to improve my filtration. Due to the fact that money is tight, I have been saving for an Aqua Clear 110. Three questions... 1) Is this a good filter for the tank I have? Or is there a bette option in the same price range? 2) When I replace the filters and put in the new one, will that mess up my bioload? My understanding is that a lot of beneficial bacteria live in the filter as well as the walls, and decor, etc. Will taking out the current filters and putting in a new one cause an issue with my water quality? 3) Not related to filtration, is my stocking ok? Like I always say, I am new at this at looking for any advice I can get from the more experienced. :) Thanks!

You have a nice sounding tank! good set up you have there.

the AC 110 is a great choice for your tank.

personally, I would run both the whisper 40 and the ac110 on that tank.
either sell the 10i, or keep it for a future QT tank that comes available when you can budget such a thing.

if you run both 40i/ac110-then you don't risk anything with your bioload, your AC will just seed up with bacteria!

but since you are taking the 10i off-keep a close eye on your parameters to make sure there isn't a mini ammonia spike-but do water changes as needed.

Hi Mizzoutank. Thanks for the advice! How long to you recommend leaving the 40i before removing? Month? Thanks!

A month is likely to be ok, But if you could go a week or two longer it wouldn't hurt. You could in fact transfer all your bio-media to the new filter and pull your 40 immediately since you would be leaving the BB colony behind.
    Gas mileage isn't everything OIIIIIIIO
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.

A warm beer is better than a cold beer. Because nothing is better than a cold beer, and a warm beer is better than nothing.

That means you move the media from the old filter to the new one. I have a whisper 10i for my QT tank, and honestly I would recommend running both the 40i and the AC110 together for about 6 weeks.
When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Brutal honesty will be shown on this screen.
I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
