Thanks! The lights are 36" (can extend to 48). I have one of the same on my 45 gallon and absolutely love it but would have never thought of shelling out the money for two new ones myself.

Well, I seem to be on a painting kick, I did some more practicing on my 10 gal qt. I absolutely love the "Make It Stone" textured paint, to me it looks very much like sand. I only wish I had tried a different color for the back of the tank. I don't want to use black for the Discus community tank, I'm looking for a nice shade of light blue.

Next I need to further research setting up the sump. I've read Cliff's articles but I think I'm just nervous about trying something new and the fact I have never plumbed anything in my life. I was going to attempt making the sump a DYI project but starting next week I'll be working 7 days a week for the next 2+ months and with everything else that has to be done I think it could really set me back in regard to the time I'm going to have. So to simplify my life I ordered the basic setup 38 gallon sump from glasscages.com.

I don't think I'm going to completely understand how everything is going to work until it's all in front of me (I've never even seen a reef ready tank in person and I've never seen a sump filter in person). I'm taking notes on how to figure gph for the pump and also the total water volume so I don't overfill the sump in the event of a power outage....At some point I just find myself staring at the screen with a glazed over look in my eyes thinking "what did I get myself into". So I move on to placement of media in sump, I've got Seachem bio matrix but I'm not sure what type of sponges or filter floss should be used at the top layer....ugh, I think I'm going to move on to bringing the patio furniture out of the shed since it is an absolutely beautiful day here :D

That would have been my first suggestion if I was aware of all the options

Although the plumbing of a sump may seam complicated right now, once you have worked through your first set-up you will how easy it can be.

Maybe try searching fresh water sumps on youtube to see how others have set-up their sumps. You'll see that it can be pretty easy to do

That is, after sun-set when it's too cool outside to enjoy the patio
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Cliff, thanks!! I went outside, pulled some weeds, got the patio furniture out, poured myself a nice gin & tonic and took a breath :D. I'm going to start lining up some of the plumbing and just do a little mock up, like you said once I work it though it will be easy.

I thought you might. Here is a video of the true Adolfoi, see if you can spot the difference.

The false Adolfoi has a longer nose and a little different shape. The true Adolfi is so much more expensive you wonder why? Some sources site them schooling together in the wild.

Ya know, it really may seem daunting but I promise sumps are the way to go. With refugium capacity, you can do youself a HUGE favor by getting some myrical mud or really really good plant substrate and throw some serious growers in the refugium portion of the sump. Then leave a light on them 24/7. Constant nitrate eating factory that doesnt ever need to be seen and is easy maintenence.

I am so happy you have a compatible other half for this fish hobby. It makes life so much better!

You picked some of my favorite discus in that clutch. Also if I can get my lazy pair to spawn I would be happy to send you some home grown super eruption leapard snakeskins. I am still waiting on them to get back in the mood! Also remember that Golden Lolipops are much more orange as they age. You would have to feed them with marigold powder to enhance more yellows. Great list of fish though!

I gotta say unless I was looking at them side by side I wouldn't have noticed the difference. I really do enjoy watching them together they are going to be really fun to have in the new tank! It's not natural for the species to school in the wild?

Nice Sandz, I didn't even consider a refugium but I could absolutely pick up some Miracle Mud 2 and plant Water Sprite (had it in my 45 and it grew like crazy). But question, wouldn't leaving the light on 24/7 promote algae growth?

It really does, he helps me out when he can and always listens when I working through a problem

Wow! I've seen your breeding pair they are just beautiful. When I saw them on Kenny's site I knew I would love to have them someday, that would just put me over the moon!! Yes, I did read that the Golden Lollipops turn more orange and would have no issue feeding marigold powder. What about the Millennium Gold? I just love the bright yellow.
