Sandz, thanks so much! Since I still consider myself a beginner I feel much safer with a new tank, especially one this size! We're going to have to lift the tank one more time to move it to it's final spot so i can see about the possibility of painting or at the very least removing the tape :D.
I'm going to paint the stand a satin black..woohoo!

+1 to the black satin stain, gives the tank a more 'supreme' presence IMO.

Great idea! You could also do yourself a service and maybe paint the stands inside instead of the tank bottom. It may make it easier say you change the tank structure in 3 years.

Hum... What Sandz said has me wondering. Is there enough of a lip on either the bottom of the tank or on the part of the stand where the tank will sit, that you could put a thin layer of sand between the tank and the top of the stand? That way there would actually be sand beneath the bottom. Or would that jeopardize the integrity of the tank?

That sounds like a cool idea. As long as you have a bed there it should be fine. Only potential problem are tiny scratches if you move it a lot.

This opens up all kinds of possibilities. You could make a path, like a creek bed with a different colored sand, maybe even press some dried leaves or a thin layer of gravel in a corner to scape it a bit. the possibilities are endless.

The only downside on that is that the person doing it must meticulously plan ahead their hardscape on top of that. Otherwise you are putting a potted plant on top of your drive and it ruins the scape. Then its a pain to change the underside.

good point. but, wow, it sounds like fun to plan something like that out. Now I'm wishing I had a tank I could do that with and WISH I'd have thought of it when I set up my 90. drat!

Wow, fishmommie & Sandz I'm really liking the ideas you have just given me...the stand doesn't have a lip on the back so I don't know if I could do real sand unless I add a a lip to the back. It's really going to come down to how many times I can get people here to lift it off the stand, it seriously took six of us. The sand idea could work because I wouldn't have to wait for the paint to dry and have them come back again..just give everyone some beer and a pizza while I add the the thin layer of sand...has me thinking!!!!
