Thread: DM's 29g tank

    Default DM's 29g tank

Well, I have the 29g up and running. My initial dose of ammonia was 5 days ago and it was dosed to 3 ppm. I tested for Trites the first time today and there is a slight purple color showing. Ammonia is around 2 ppm. All I have for filtration is an AC 50. I will be adding either a second AC 50 or my Eheim from the 20g. I still have to add the background as well.
I have been very hesitant to get this tank up and running given what happened to the 20g but I have decided to not let that fear stop me from striving for a healthy, enjoyable tank. This tank will be stocked with my favorite.. Lampeye killies and some type of pygmy Cory. I have used the same DW that was in the 20g. It was soaked in a mild bleach solution.. twice and then sat in water dosed with prime for the past two months. Hopefully I have not made a mistake using it.

Forgot a pic. Sorry about the reflection but you get the gist. As you can see, I went with a black sand substrate. My daughter advised me that the Lampeye would stand out more with it.. Lol.

It's great to see the tank up and running and your daughters right, the dark substrate will bring out the color in the Lampeyes even more :)

Thanks Lee. Before I had them the first time, I did not realize that they actually develop that slight yellow on them and I think the black will help that stand out more.

Thanks. The lfs has agreed to replace my 12 Lampeye free of charge so aside from the fact that I absolutely love these fish they are free! And no worries about the light substrate.. they look amazing no matter what IMO.

I am very happy about that, obviously.. Lol. It's too bad they are located over 2 hrs away. This is why they agreed to replace the fish without the dead fish brought back. It's a bit tough to run to the city any old time but yeah, the manager was great.
