    Default air pump options

    hey guys

in working on my parts list for my new 40gallon I just got from the petco $1 per gallon sale and im now looking at air pumps. currently I'm looking at the ecoplus air 2 as the reviews I've read have been very good and it's in a good price range, but I don't know if it would be the right one for a 40gallon tank. I was also wondering if anyone had one or have had one and wanted to chime in. I really don't want to spend more that $20 on a pump because I plan on converting my tank to a planted one so there really won't be a need for an air pump then (from what I understand). any help would be great :)

Most of us place the filter's exit over the water and thereby do not need an air pump. I think I binned my last one in 1990 or so.

+1 Airpumps are used for sponge filters or having a bubble bar.

I use an airpump for my sponge filter, but you get what you pay for in terms of noise-nicer onces are quiet and more reliable.

so if noise isn't an issue, then save some money and get cheap. but these pumps sure can get loud.

i use the tetra wisper air pump-its not bad, has a soft hum to it, but i'm looking to hang the pump so it can't vibrate against anything and make it near quiet
